What to know before a lab test

A short checklist for fasting, home sample collection, and how to read the booking you just made.

A clinician preparing a blood sample

A lab booking is only as smooth as the preparation. A few checks the night before keep the sample valid and the visit short.

Ask whether the test needs fasting

Lipid profiles and some blood sugar tests need 8 to 12 hours without food. Water is usually fine. If you are unsure, message BookClinic before the appointment rather than guessing at the lab.

Home collection vs visiting the lab

Home sample collection is useful when you want the kit brought to you. The lab visit is better when the test needs imaging or equipment that cannot travel.

    1. Confirm the facility name and time on your booking.
    2. Wear a sleeve that is easy to roll up.
    3. Results are shared by the lab after processing, not at the desk.
